WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

March 2021 marks the 33rd year of Women’s History Month. This is a time to celebrate the women who helped shape our lives today, and encourage our future female leaders to make the lives better for future generations. Today, I want to acknowledge three of the women who made their mark by fighting for what was right, persevering through difficult cicrumstances and social injsutices.

Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906)

Susan B. Anthony was a key figure in the women’s suffrage movement and was the president of the National Woman Suffrage Association. Her work and dedication was essential in the signing of the Nineteenth Amendment (1920) to the Constitution. She was also a firm believer in the abolitionist movement.

Rosa Parks (1913-2005)

Rosa Parks was a pioneer for the civil rights movement in the United States by refusing to give up her seat to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama. With her help, the Montgomery Bus Boycott was organized, which ended with the Supreme Court ruling that bus segregation was unconstitutional. Rosa Parks is a symbol of strength and bravery.

Harriet Tubman (1822-1913)

Harriet Tubman was most known for being a “conductor” of the Underground Railroad. She helped hundreds of families and slaves escape the plantation system and lead a life of freedom. She worked as a spy for the Union Army and was a leading abolitionist. She continued to dedicate her life to helping former slaves after the end of the Civil War.
