HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!
We celebrate June as Pride month. Many of us know Pride month through the parades that visibly and colorfully celebrate and diversity of our LGBTQ community. But why June?
It all started, as we with most freedom movements, from the oppressed community taking a stand. On June 28, 1969, fed up with repeated harassment of gays and Lesbians, thousands took to the street in New York City. The triggering event was a raid on Stonewall Inn, a gay club near Central Park. A year later, on June 28, 1970, an even greater number of people marched together chanting, “Say it loud, gay is proud.”. The Pride march was born and has grown now to be a global celebration and the most visible mobilization of people power for LTBTQ equality and inclusion.
